Indian Engineering Services or IES consists of a select base of engineers working under the GOI (Government of India).

Candidates seeking recruitment for an IES post, need to appear for a competitive exam called the Engineering Services Examination or IES exam. UPSC IES is a single exam, including all engineering branches, held by the UPSC or the Union Public Services Commission to recruit candidates for the IES posts. The IES exam pattern is the same every year, constituting of a written exam and an interview.

Those who qualify the Engineering Services Examination are eligible for recruitment in the identified four categories:

  • Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

JOB PROFILE-

IES officials perform various job roles, spanning across technical and managerial work delivery for the GOI. The initial designation an IES officer holds is of Assistant Executive Engineer/Assistant commissioner or Assistant Director and going up in the hierarchy; the highest post is Chairman or Managing Director.
